Advanced Energy Conference (AEC) 2016

Synfuels Americas attended and exhibited at the Advanced Energy Conference in New York, New York on April 21-22, 2016. The conference was organized by the Advanced Energy Research & Technology Center (AERTC), a New York State Center of Excellence at Stony Brook University. Speakers included an extensive list of experts from prestigious New York institutions, like the Brookhaven National Laboratory and Lockheed Martin Energy. Other speakers of note were the United States (U.S.) Department of Energy’s Under Secretary for Science and Energy, Dr. Franklin Orr, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Director of Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E), Dr. Ellen Williams. The two-day event offered many sessions, with topics ranging from Clean Energy Project Financing, Battery and Energy Storage, and Energy Cybersecurity, to other energy-focused topics covering economic development and policy, manufacturing, water, buildings, smart and micro grids, transportation fuels and vehicles, nuclear energy, bioenergy, and solar and wind energy. The conference concluded with a panel session discussion on the challenges and opportunities for the future of the electric utility industry.

Synfuels Americas presented our strong R&D capabilities and a proven track record in advancing the efficiency of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. We were pleased to meet with public and private representatives of the innovation occurring in advanced energy technologies and processes. As Undersecretary Orr emphasized during his speech, the challenge is securing the economic, environmental and energy mechanisms necessary to accelerate the learning curves for the implementation of carefully selected technologies. Synfuels Americas is keen to ensure that the investments we make contribute to the security, reliability and resilience of the energy industry.
